Description

The Yorkshire Terrier was a breed of dog that earned their living as ratters (rat hunters) in mines and mills before becoming royalty as lapdogs of Victorian ladies. This dog was developed in the mid-1800s in northern English counties of Yorkshire and Lancashire.

The standard color combinations for the Yorkshire Terrier are black & tan, black & gold, blue & tan, and blue & gold. Their silky-smooth hair can grow to floor-length, but many owners prefer to keep their Yorkie’s coat in a shorter “puppy cut.” These dogs are also considered hypoallergenic making them great pets for people with allergies.

Yorkshire Terriers have a sassy personality but are also very charming and affectionate. They are smart, and always aware of their surroundings. A true companion dog, the Yorkie wants to go wherever their owner goes. A moderate level of exercise will keep them happy and healthy.
