Description

One of the top ten most popular dog breeds in the United States the Golden Retriever is a breed that was developed in Scotland, by Sir Dudley Marjoribanks, who was later known as Lord Tweedmouth. Tweedmouth was an ardent waterfowl hunter and wanted to breed a dog that was talented at retrieving game. To achieve this, he crossed his “Yellow Retriever” with a breed that is now extinct, the Tweed Water Spaniel – Irish Settler and Bloodhound were also added to the mix.

The Golden Retriever makes a great family pet because of their friendly and tolerant attitude. They wear a thick golden coat and shed profusely. These dogs are a medium sized and were used as working and sporting dogs. They excel at retrieving game for hunters, tracking, sniffing out contraband for law enforcement, and as therapy and service dogs. Golden Retrievers are natural athletes, easy to train, people friendly, great with kids, and very protective of their humans. They are a loyal, loving, smart companion.
